This website has been designed as a useful reference for all contact lens practitioners, regardless of experience. It is a compact summary and is not intended to be a substitute for a comprehensive textbook on the topic of contact lens complications. The subjects covered range from more common low grade conditions to the rarer and more serious ones.

Conditions are listed in sections (cornea, limbus, conjunctiva, etc.). Within each condition, you will find a description of the condition, its signs, symptoms, prevalence, differential diagnosis, and management, along with helpful photos and videos. Click on one of the tabs above to get started!

The genesis for the site dates back to an initiative started by Adrian Bruce and Noel Brennan in 1993 called “A Guide to Clinical Contact Lens Management”, which was funded by CIBA Vision. This guide was updated in 1995 and again in 2000, and has been edited by a number of individuals, including Rick Franz, Tony Hanks, Erich Bauman, Ross Grant and John McNally.

This latest web-based version has updated the text and many of the images, and added a number of new conditions and videos. I am particularly grateful to Kathy Dumbleton, Lindsay Paquette, Mike Yang and many other members of the Centre for Contact Lens Research for their work in putting together this latest version, under the direction of both Peter Bergenske and Carla Mack at Alcon.

We are confident that the content will provide a wide range of clinically useful information in a presentation style which is ideal for quick reference.
